Membership as an Individual Member
Individual membership is for pharmacists working in a managed care environment, as well as other healthcare professionals such as doctors and nursing sisters working in managed care. This category of membership does not exclude academic teaching staff of medical, pharmaceutical or other scientific university faculties. It also could include invited medical and pharmaceutical research scientists. Having been admitted to membership, Individual Members agree to pay an annual membership fee as shall be determined by the Executive Committee. Fees are adjusted from time to time in accordance with the inflation rate. Individual Members have the right to be elected onto the Executive Committee at the Annual General Meeting and serve as office bearers.
Membership as a Corporate Member
Corporate membership is for persons, partnerships or bodies corporate carrying on a business in South Africa such as pharmaceutical benefit management companies, manufacturers or distributors of medicines or any such organisations or company operating in the health care industry. The Corporate Member must agree to pay an annual membership fee that shall be determined by the Executive Committee. This also applies to organisations, whether local or international having the same or similar objectives as those of the Association, which in the sole discretion of the Executive Committee and subject to such conditions as it may prescribe, are admitted to Corporate Membership. This also includes Medical Funds and such Employer Groups that operate Medical Funds, Health Management Organisations, Department of Health and similar organisations deemed appropriate can also join as Corporate Members.
Joining Fee and Subscriptions
Individual Members (individual healthcare professionals) are charged a membership fee that increases annually according to inflation and the agreement of the ExCo. Corporate Members (non-voting corporate funders) are also charged an Annual Subscription which is based on the budget of PCMA for the year.
Voting
Each Individual Member not in arrears has the right to (inter alia) vote on any Motion put to General or Special Meeting of the Association. Individual Members serving on the Executive Committee also enjoy the right to vote at ExCo meetings. Corporate Members have all the rights which Individual Members possess except they are not entitled to vote, except at the Annual General Meeting with one vote per Corporate Member. Corporate Members are encouraged to attend at least for ExCo meetings during the year.
